Shining Show Debriefing

Welcome to Behind the Scenes! In lieu of all the shows Shining Studios is holding auditions for in the coming weeks, this post will be about the plot and histories the musicals we’re holding auditions for.

13 the musical has music and lyrics written by Jason Robert Brown and book by both Dan Elish and Robert Horn. The show follows the young main character Evan Goldman as he moves from the heart of New York City to a postage stamp of a town in Indiana. Left trying to face the outcome of his parent’s divorce, he has to deal with navigating the social circles of his new school and planning his Bar Mitzvah. 13 made Broadway history when it became the first and only musical to boast an all teenage cast and band. Fun fact: in the original cast, Ariana Grande played the part of Charlotte- one of the cheerleaders. The auditions for this show are being held in our Port Washington location.

Mary Poppins’ music and lyrics were written by Academy Award winning Sherman Brothers and a script by Julian Fellowes. This musical was based off the children’s series of novels by P.L. Travers and the 1964 Disney film and uses elements from both. The show was produced by the Walt Disney Theatrical company. The story follows Jane and Michael, the children of the uptight Banks family, as they are met with the prospect of a new nanny. They are pleasantly surprised with magical Mary Poppins. They embark on a series of fantastical adventures with Mary and her performer friend Bert while the nanny is really just bringing their family together. The auditions for this show are also being held in our Port Washington location.

Tarzan the musical is based on the Disney movie that was developed from the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel from 1914. The music and lyrics were written by Phil Collins and book by David Henry Hwang. The musical follows the basic plotline of the movie; Tarzan is raised by gorillas from a young age and one day meets the pretty English Naturalist Jane where they fall in love. However Tarzan’s loyalties are tested when he discovers Jane’s entourage’s plan to kill his gorilla family. The auditions for this show will be held in our Amityville location.

We hope to see everyone at our auditions and tune in next week for more Behind the Scenes!
