Auditioning News

Welcome to Behind the Scenes! Auditions for fall shows have started being announced including the musical production of 13! They will be held at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Port Washington (9 Carlton Avenue, Port Washington NY) where rehearsals will also be held. To schedule an appointment to audition, please contact us at . We request that you come prepared to sing 16 bars from a song of your choice. While songs from 13 are encouraged, you are not required to choose one. If you have conflict with both audition dates or are interested in further information, please call us at 631-334-9611.

If you’ve never auditioned before or even if you just need to be reminded, I have taken it upon myself to compile a list of auditioning Do’s and Dont’s to keep in mind.

                               Do                               Don’t
  • Do introduce yourself clearly and smile.
  • Don’t mumble and act like you’re nervous, even if it might be true.
  • Do pick a single point to focus on, briefly glancing at the directors if you’re confident enough.
  • Don’t stare at the floor or make uncomfortable eye contact with one specific person.
  • If you mess up, keep going!
  • Don’t ask to start over- you can’t do that in the middle of a show so don’t do it now.
  • Do be prepared. Read everything ahead of time and search google for any relevant information.
  • Don’t ask questions for the sake of asking them.
  • Do speak clearly and slowly so you can be heard.
  • Don’t apologize for your performance or make excuses, they won’t want to hear any of them.
  • Do chose material that shows as many side of you as possible so casting can go in any direction.
  • Don’t try to predict what the directors will think, try your hardest and you shouldn’t have to worry about it.
  • Do be yourself! That’s all anyone can ask for.
  • Don’t be too nervous. You’ll do amazing!
